The site where the proposed Forest Green project would be located lies above Jana Vista
street, off Clark Road in El Sobrante, and is bordered to the east by the Clark-Boas trail
and to the west by La Colina. The northern boundary is about two-thirds of the way up the
hill, where a line of eucalyptus runs east-west. The land above that is privately owned.
The site where the proposed Forest Green project would be located was formerly known as
the Johnson property. Johnson sought to place a trailer park on the property but was unable
to clear this with the city. He then sold the property, selling the upper portion to a doctor
and the lower portion to a development company (we've been told that the doctor had wanted
to purchase the entire property, but that it was split out of spite because of the denial of
permits for the trailer park and that there was an understanding that the purchasers would
continue to try to develop it). Since then a few proposals have been made but the current
proposal is the first one to make it as far as the EIR stage.
Currently the site has a horse stable located in the upper south-west corner, and is otherwise
undeveloped and untouched - prime habitat for those flora and fauna desiring thick oak cover
and access to water.
